Botswana Counselling Association’s 2nd International Counseling Conference – July 9-12, 2012

NBCC International (NBCC-I) was honored to be invited to attend, sponsor and present at the 2nd International Counseling Conference held by the Botswana Counselling Association (BCA) in Gaborone. The theme of this year’s conference was “New Beginnings: Trends and Developments of Counselling in Botswana,” and participation included counselors from Botswana as well as Nigeria, Swaziland, the United States and Zimbabwe. NBCC-I joined other presenters who discussed a wide range of topics affecting Botswana counselors and counselors in greater Africa.

The conference was opened by the Minister of Education, Skills and Development. Part of the conference program was dedicated to draft legislation being written by BCA. Dedicated leadership from this counseling organization founded in 2007 have been advocating with government officials to officially recognize counseling as a profession with the goal of having the legislation passed in 2013. BCA also announced plans to create standards for professional counselors in order to protect citizens who use these services and promote the work that counselors do in this country.
