NBCC International History

NBCC International, a division of the National Board for Certified Counselors, Inc. & Affiliates (NBCC), was founded in 2003 to strengthen counseling and highlight counseling needs around the world. Soon after its launch in January of 2005, NBCC International (NBCC-I) worked with international organizations such as the World Health Organization (WHO) to provide support to mental health professionals in areas affected by the Southeast Asia Tsunami of December 26, 2004. NBCC-I enjoys strong relationships with WHO, and the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), as well as various other international and national entities in its work to empower counselors to provide counseling services as needed, wherever they are needed.

In recognition of the work of NBCC-I and its parent organization NBCC, UNESCO has granted NBCC status as a nongovernmental organization (NGO) in consultative partnership.
