Wendi K. Schweiger
Associate Vice President, NBCC International


Wendi K. Schweiger is Associate Vice President of NBCC-I, NBCC’s newest division. As Associate Vice President, Dr. Schweiger organizes and facilitates NBCC’s collaboration efforts with counselors and counseling organizations outside the United States that are taking steps to professionalize.

Dr. Schweiger has worked for NBCC in a variety of capacities, beginning as a graduate assistant in 2000. Her first assignment was coordinating the Fair Access Coalition on Testing (FACT; www.fairaccess.org ), an advocacy group for testing privileges based on training and education rather than degree alone, which is managed by NBCC. She advanced to Chair of the FACT Board of Directors in 2004 and served in that capacity until 2008. In January 2005, she was appointed Director of NBCC International. She was named to her current position in August 2008.

Dr. Schweiger is a counselor with experience in counseling children and expertise in the use of play therapy techniques. These skills were honed during her time at Orangeburg Area Mental Health Center in Orangeburg, South Carolina. Dr. Schweiger, a licensed professional counselor (LPC) in North Carolina, is an inductee of the Chi Sigma Iota honor society. She has been a National Certified Counselor (NCC) since 1998. She holds memberships in national and international counseling organizations.

Raised in Summerville, South Carolina, Dr. Schweiger first moved to North Carolina to complete her undergraduate studies at Salem College in Winston-Salem. She earned her Master of Science and Educational Specialist degrees in Community Counseling (1997) and her doctorate in Counselor Education (2008) at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
