Federazione delle Associazioni Italiane di Counseling (FAIC)
The Italian Federation of Counseling Association is the follow-up process of the Italian Counseling Committee that was created to formulate common rules for the certification of counselors in Italy. Four of the major counseling associations in Italy (AICO, ANCORE, FAIP and SICOOL) formed this committee and agreed to a set of minimum standards for the preparation and practice of counselors. They agreed to establish codes of ethics and requirements for the minimum hours of training in counseling, supervised practice, and continuing education according to the current standards in Europe. FAIC was formed in October 2007 after an international counseling conference when REICO, another national association joined the other founding associations. The purpose is to create an umbrella in which every other national association can collaborate on the basis of the common standards and to create common rules for the certification of counselors in Italy. It is also to formalize an entity that can create relationships with other foreign counseling associations and the intention is to be a middle step in order to create NBCC Italy.
NBCC International (NBCC-I)
NBCC International (NBCC-I) was founded in 2003 as a division of the National Board for Certified Counselors, Inc., and Affiliates (NBCC). NBCC, the world’s premier counselor credentialing body, created NBCC-I specifically to collaborate with counseling organizations outside the United States in the promotion of counseling and credential development. When invited, NBCC-I has helped its colleagues develop career counseling and guidance-specific certification, general counselor certification, and procedures to set standards, as well as many other services. NBCC-I staff collaborates with organizations such as the World Health Organization (WHO), the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), and the Center for Quality Assurance in International Education (CQAIE), among others. In recognition of the work of NBCC and NBCC International, UNESCO has granted NBCC status as a non-governmental organization in operational relations.

Recognizing the importance of active participation in European counseling and guidance circles, NBCC-I has established field offices in Bulgaria and Romania, and a regional office in Switzerland - NBCC International-Europe. Field and regional offices serve as a means to develop and strengthen relationships and serve as points of contact for groups interested in collaborating with NBCC-I. NBCC International-Europe also serves as the coordinator of the field offices in Europe.
