VII Counseling Congress of the Americas and VIII Venezuelan Interdisciplinary Counseling Congress — November 30-December 2, 2011
The VII Counseling Congress of the Americas and the VIII Venezuelan Interdisciplinary Counseling Congress were held in the city of Maracaibo, Venezuela. The theme of this joint event was “Challenges in the Versatility of Counseling: Wellbeing, Inclusion, Equity and Social Justice.”

Bhutan Thunder Dragon Counseling Institute 2012 Announced: Application Deadline April 15, 2012
A two-week institute for counselor educators and practitioners will be held in Bhutan October 24-November 12, 2012. The purpose of the institute is to introduce counselors to Bhutan as well as provide an opportunity for brief counseling and teaching.

NBCC International Research Grant Opportunity
NBCC International (NBCC-I), a division of the National Board for Certified Counselors (NBCC), manages the Mental Health Facilitator (MHF) program. The MHF is a 30-hour curriculum that trains laypeople, paraprofessionals and professionals from outside mental health in areas such as helping skills and referral.

Bhutan Counseling Institute Announced
A three-week institute for counselor educators and counseling practitioners will be held in Bhutan October 4-28, 2011. The purpose of the institute is to introduce American counselors to the country and to give counselors from the United States an opportunity to provide counseling services to the citizens of Bhutan.

Counseling Conference in Thimphu and New International Office - NBCC Bhutan
The First Annual National Counseling Conference in Thimphu, Bhutan, was celebrated on February 7-8, 2011. The conference, the first of its kind in Bhutan, was sponsored by Respect, Educate, Nurture and Empower Women (RENEW), the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Health, the Royal University of Bhutan and NBCC International (NBCC-I). The conference offered a platform to provide practical knowledge and skills related to the ongoing application of counseling in Bhutan and the United States.

FAVO’s I International Symposium: First Professional Counseling Certifications Awarded
The Venezuelan Federation of Counselors’ Associations (FAVO), an organization with more than 2,000 members, conducted its I International Symposium December 8-10, 2010, at the University of Zulia in Maracaibo, Venezuela. The theme for the symposium, “Advances in Counseling – Philosophy, Pedagogic Address, and Emerging Praxis,” drew the attendance of a large group of counselors, government officials, students and related professionals.

VI Counseling Congress of the Americas, November 2010
The VI Counseling Congress of the Americas was celebrated in Mexico City on November 4 to 6, 2010, with a theme of the Role of the Counselor who Faces Diversity. The congress gathered counselors, students, and related professionals at the Universidad Iberoamericana and the Universidad de las Américas de Ciudad de México.

The International Forum of College Student Career Planning 2010, Beijing, China
The International Forum of College Student Career Planning 2010 is being held in Beijing from October 29 to November 2, 2010. This year’s theme is the “diverse developmental model and technical practice of the career planning system.” All GCDFs are invited to attend, and all overseas GCDFs will enjoy free registration on the summit forum (October 30 & 31).

NBCC Speaks Up for Counseling at UNESCO General Conference
Paris – NBCC has used its official status with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) to advocate for counseling as a component of the agency’s education policies and programs. Executive Vice President Ted Iliff represented NBCC at the biennial General Conference held at UNESCO headquarters during the last half of October. NBCC was invited to participate in the conference because of its status as a non-governmental organization (NGO) partner in official relations.

NBCC President Dr. Thomas Clawson Interviewed by Sky Radio
NBCC’s new Mental Health Facilitator certification program is taking off, literally, thanks to American Airlines. Throughout November, the airline’s in-flight audio service features NBCC President and CEO Dr. Thomas Clawson discussing the MHF concept. The interview was done by veteran broadcast journalist Dennis Michaels for Sky Radio, producers of program for the world’s largest airline.

First MHF Pilot Training Held in Mexico
A significant step in the launch of the Mental Health Facilitator (MHF) program, a key NBCC International project, was taken on the week of 24-29 September 2007. The pilot of the MHF training, which was coordinated with the support of the NBCC-Mexico field office staff was held at Universidad Iberoamericana, in Mexico City.

Agreement Signed with Argentine Counselors
NBCC International signs an agreement for the development of a national counselor certification in Argentina.

Major Career Development Conference to be held in Beijing
Beisen career Development Consultation Service, the leading GCDF training provider in China, is hosting a major conference on career development in Beijing in November. The conference, titled The First China Conference on Career Development Planning, is scheduled for Nov. 17 and 18. Two day-long workshops will precede the conference on Nov. 15 and 16.

NBCC Receives UNESCO Partner Status
NBCC’s global status has reached a new level through its designation as an official non-governmental organization (NGO) partner with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
